Foreign skilled workers such as engineers, dentists and nurses will be receiving assistance in order to work in their fields as certified professionals through a micro-loan program offered by the province of Manitoba.

Newly arrived immigrants can receive a maximum of $10,000 through the Recognition Counts! Micro Loans For Skilled Immigrants, which is a pilot project in effect for 2 years.  Individuals will only have to repay the loan with monthly payments starting at $10 per month.

This pilot project is a potential answer to the problem of skilled workers arriving in Canada and having to be taxi drivers or housekeepers.  This program helps Canadian immigrants start practicing their respective professions.  The loan can be used to cover the cost of improving training and re-accreditation.  Individuals can also use the loan to cover the cost of living expenses as they are in school.

Payments start once the recipient has worked for 90 days in their profession and the individual can take as long as 5 years to repay the loan.

Ideal candidates for this loan are Canadian permanent residents or citizens who earn less than $23,298 a year and who can become certified in their profession within two years.

Manitoba also has a fantastic PNP program which it offers to foreign nationals seeking Canadian permanent residence.  If you speak English, have work experience and a post-secondary diploma and have some close friends or family in Manitoba you may qualify, contact us to find out how.
