Canada Expands Quota of Working Holiday Visas for Irish Citizens; Over 10,000 Applications to be Accepted

Canada and Ireland have a long and rich history together. Thanks to programs such as the International Experience Canada (IEC) this tradition has been able to flourish. This year, there will be a 70% increase in the number of Canadian working holiday visas available to young Irish people with the quota now being 10,700. These visas are catered for Irish people aged 35 and under, and their children, to live and work in Canada for up to two years. Canada has a lot to offer in terms of employment opportunities in various fields as well as locations for work; there is something to suit a multitude of tastes and needs.

The visas will be allocated in different categories; 2,500 are earmarked for those who have already received and offer of employment in Canada and 500 for full-time students to work at internships as part of the ‘international co-op’ category. These March 11, 2014 is the start date for applications. In addition, 7,700 visas will be available for the working holiday category. The first round entries for this category opens up March 13, 2014 with a second round still to be announced. Due to the first-come first-served nature of the application process, it has been advised that interested applicants to have their required documents prepared in advance.
